Story Valley students publish school newspaper

Students from a range of subjects at Srednja medijska in grafična šola created a newspaper, having researched real-life stories of refugees to Slovenia.

On Tuesday 10th May, the students taking part in Story Valley at Srednja medijska in grafična šola in Ljubljana presented their special issue of the school newspaper Pixel. Over the course of their Story Valley journey, the students in Ljubljana have been learning more about the lives, stories and histories of people who have sought refuge in Slovenia, coinciding with the commemoration of thirty years since the start of the Bosnian War which saw many people move from Bosnia to Slovenia.

Here you find the art work from the students participating in Story Valley Academy projects all over Europe.  Their work varies from films, books, newspapers, music, plays and even the complete brand identity of Story Valley Academy self.

Take a look and get inspired to start your own project.

Mieszko The Dragon book

King of cherries

This project was made by students from Friesland College (the Netherlands), Edinburgh College (Scotland) and Srednja Medijska in Grafična Sola Ljubljana (Slovenia).

Students told stories from their own culture and hit on one that they all enjoyed – the story of the ‘king of cherries’ who was said to live in a castle near to one of the students, and throw cherries at his attackers.

The students combined their different skills to create a short, comical, film reinterpreting the old story.

Carnivaland - song and website

This project was made by students from Friesland College (the Netherlands), Edinburgh College (Scotland) and Srednja Medijska in Grafična Sola Ljubljana (Slovenia).

Students came together and found a common thread between their three cultures – ‘Carnival’ celebrations.

Each student had different qualities and they all went to different schools with different specialisms. They decided that they wanted to make something which related to all these differences. So they made a website (two students were web developers), and they made a song that they wanted to perform and film the performance to be put on this website (two students were filmmakers/editors).

'Run Yer Ain Race' by Gerry Campbell

A song written by HND Music student Gerry Campbell at Edinburgh College as part of a Story Valley pilot project.

The project was based around the concept of 'We're Aw Jock Tamson's Bairns' which is a Scots saying meaning 'we're all the same'. The class used the Story Valley approach to develop lyrics in Scots, or in the student's chosen language, and write a song based on these lyrics. This performance is taken from Discover Story Valley, an event to showcase and share the Story Valley model at The Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, in January 2023
